Alberton woman transforms wedding cake crisis into a story of community spirit
An Alberton woman’s willingness to help complete strangers transforms a wedding cake crisis into a story of community spirit
A local family’s wedding cake crisis turned into a heartwarming story of community kindness after a talented baker stepped in to help complete an important order at the eleventh hour.
A resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said their granddaughter, who bakes as a hobby, had taken on the ambitious task of making six cakes for the guest tables as well as the main wedding cake for a bride and groom.
As preparations intensified, the young baker received assistance from her 81-year-old great-grandmother, who spent Thursday and Friday baking.
However, by Friday morning, the pair realised the cakes were not turning out as planned.
“We were becoming desperate,” the resident said.
Seeking help, Nicolette Graddon of Figure 8 Salon referred the family to Elria Billson.
Despite having little notice and not knowing the family, Billson immediately offered her assistance.
The anonymous resident said Billson generously gave up her time to guide them through the challenges they faced.
By 21:00 on Friday evening, the cakes were finally back on track.
The completed cakes were delivered as planned and impressed everyone at the wedding.
“They looked absolutely stunning,” the resident said.
“A very big thank you to Elria Billson for saving the day and helping in our time of need,” the resident added.
