What was meant to be a routine pick-up of colleagues to work turned into a disaster when three Fox Security officers were involved in a crash in Dinwiddie, Germiston, in the early hours of August 15.

Willem Bosch, the driver, Leon Kruger, the front passenger, and Esme Verrier, who was seated at the back, were travelling in a company vehicle when the crash occurred.

The collision happened shortly after 03:07 when a silver Volkswagen Polo allegedly skipped a red traffic light at Black Reef Road and collided with the Fox Security vehicle travelling along Hartfield Avenue.

The security vehicle was struck on the right-hand side, in the front wheel area.

Dashcam footage from the security vehicle appears to show that its traffic light was green at the time of the collision, indicating that the vehicle had the right of way.

Bosch and Verrier remain in the trauma ICU at Netcare Alberton Hospital, while Kruger, who was not seriously injured, is receiving trauma counselling.

Bosch sustained severe injuries and had to have his left leg amputated.

Verrier suffered a cracked vertebra and neck injuries. She also has swelling in the brain, and one of her lungs collapsed.

A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened at Germiston SAPS.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated.
