The Hair Academy of South Africa crowns top hairstylists at annual competition
Judges selected category winners as future beauty professionals demonstrated their technical skills and creative flair during an event in Wadeville.
Creativity and technical skill took centre stage when The Hair Academy of South Africa in Alberton hosted its annual hair competition on September 6.
Held at Social Hub in Wadeville, the event brought together hairstylists who competed in the women’s and men’s categories.
The audience was also kept entertained throughout the event by singers, an entertainer and a dancer.
At the same time, models took to the stage to showcase different hairstyles created by the participating stylists.
In the men’s category, participants demonstrated their barbering skills by cutting and styling models’ hair.
After the stylists completed their work, judges assessed the hairstyles before announcing the winners.
In the women’s category, Sumike Botha took first place, followed by Jayde Nicolas in second place and Queen Sibanyoni in third.
The men’s category saw Jared Smit from Prentice Printers Barbershop claim first place. Zadre Maarman took second place, while Cristiano Conceicao finished third.
All participants received certificates of participation.
Academy owner and principal Carmen du Bruyn said the event was a success and gave hairstylists a chance to show their creativity and skills.
She also announced that preparations were already under way for the 2027 competition, with only 12 chairs available for participants.
