SAUAC hosts annual Wellness Walk Against Cancer at Rietvlei Zoo Farm
SAUAC will host its annual 5km and 8km walks to promote cancer awareness, prevention and early detection.
South Africa United Against Cancer (SAUAC) will host its annual Wellness Walk Against Cancer at Rietvlei Zoo Farm on October 24.
The event brings together families, young people, cancer survivors, businesses and communities in support of cancer awareness and healthier lifestyles.
Promoting early detection
The walk is part of SAUAC’s national efforts to promote cancer awareness, prevention and early detection.
The registered non-profit organisation was founded to support cancer patients and families through education, community activities and professional support. It aims to help people recognise early warning signs and seek medical assistance sooner.
In partnership with the Gauteng Department of Health and the City of Johannesburg, SAUAC also works to improve access to information, screening, referrals and support for people affected by cancer.
The 2025 wellness walk attracted 2 500 participants. This year, SAUAC hopes to grow the movement to 10 000 participants under the theme, ’10 000 Steps of Hope – 10 000 Voices United Against Cancer’.
Event details and registration
Participants can choose between an 8km walk starting at 08:15 or a 5km walk starting at 08:30. Registration opens at 07:00.
The event is open to everyone. Adults pay R350 and children R300, while early-bird tickets are available at R320 and R290 respectively.
Participants will receive a T-shirt, race bib, drawstring bag and access to the full event programme. After the walk, activities, including food, entertainment, and partner exhibitions, will continue from 11:00 to 14:00.
