Greenfields resident pleads for help as sewer problem drags on for months

Fezeka Dlembula fears for her toddler's health after repeated attempts to get municipal technicians to fix a leak allegedly resulted in rude responses and worsened conditions.

A Greenfields resident has appealed to the City of Ekurhuleni for assistance after a prolonged sewer problem allegedly left sewage flowing into her yard.

Fezeka Dlembula, who contacted the Alberton Record, said she had reported the issue several times but had yet to receive a lasting solution.

In an email to municipal officials, she noted the situation had deteriorated.

She described the situation as a health hazard and said things had worsened. Dlembula said she had sent numerous emails about the problem and had grown exhausted by the lack of progress.

She also raised concerns about the impact on her toddler, who can no longer play outside because of the sewage in the yard.

Technicians allegedly rude

According to Dlembula, municipal technicians had previously attended to the problem. However, she alleged that she and her neighbour warned the technicians that the work appeared to be causing sewage to flow into their yards.

She further alleged that the technicians responded rudely when she raised these concerns.

The resident also reported difficulties logging the fault through the City’s application, saying her address automatically defaults to Palm Ridge even though she lives in Greenfields.

She said technicians who previously attended to the problem said they were from Germiston, despite her address falling under Alberton.
