WATCH: Long queues as 1,200 residents cast votes at Alberton Rugby Club
Alberton residents turned out in numbers to cast their votes at the Alberton Rugby Club, with long queues forming as voters waited for their turn.
About 1 200 people had cast their votes at the voting station, with a notable turnout of young people among those waiting in line.
The queues are long, with some voters spending several hours waiting to cast their ballots.
One of the voters, Lizette Kasselman said she had waited in the queue for about three hours before getting an opportunity to vote.
She said her expectation was to see improved service delivery and accountability from those elected to represent residents.
“As a ratepayer, I want to see what I pay for. From now on, no more electricity cuts and no more lies,” she said.
Her concerns reflect the expectations of residents who want to see their rates and taxes translated into reliable services and better accountability.
For many voters, the ballot offers an opportunity to make their voices heard and influence the future of service delivery in their communities.
