Kenton Primary triumphs at 2026 interschools athletics

Seven records fall as Kenton Primary secures a commanding victory at the 2026 interschools athletics competition.

Kenton Primary School has been crowned the overall winner of the 2026 Interschools Athletics competition after delivering an outstanding performance against neighbouring schools at the annual event held at Hoërskool Dinamika.

The competition brought together young athletes from Kenton Primary School, Glenview Primary School, Brackenhurst Primary School and Alberton Primary School in a day of spirited track and field contests.

Kenton Primary secured a commanding victory with 187 points, finishing ahead of Alberton Primary on 168 points, Brackenhurst Primary on 133 points, and Glenview Primary on 66 points.

The triumph was highlighted by an exceptional performance from several Kenton athletes who collectively broke seven records during the meet.

Among the standout performers was Chizioraife Mia Ezeji, who set a new U9 80m record with an impressive time of 11.47 seconds.

Puso Macuso also delivered a remarkable performance, breaking two records in the U9 category, clocking 7.68 seconds in the 60m and 11.76 seconds in the 80m.

In the senior primary division, Wandile Binda showcased his speed by setting new records in the U12 100m, finishing in 12 seconds, and the U12 150m, completing the race in 19.95 seconds.

Distance runner Hayley Nieuwenhuys added two more records to the tally with strong endurance performances.
She set a new U12 1200m record with a time of 4 minutes 16 seconds and followed it up with a U13 800m record of 2 minutes 39 seconds.

Leadership on the day was provided by athletics captains Thendo Mawela and Ronique Whitecomb, who helped guide the team through a highly competitive programme of events.

Other notable performances included Tintswalo Mthembi, who competed strongly in the 1500m race, while the 1200m race saw a Kenton athlete dominate the podium with Hayley Nieuwenhuys taking first place, followed by Ivy-Lynn Griffin in second and Madison Coppens in third.
