Drakensberg Boys Choir School invites you to Music in the City 2026

Drakensberg Boys Choir School will bring music, culture and international collaboration to Johannesburg from June 17 to 20 during the exciting Music in the City 2026 festival at the Mandela Theatre

Music lovers are invited to experience the internationally acclaimed Drakensberg Boys Choir School during Music in the City 2026, taking place from June 17 to 20 at the Mandela Theatre at Joburg Theatre.

The four-day festival will celebrate community, heritage and music through performances by local and international choirs.

This year’s theme is ‘A Global Celebration of Community and Heritage’, with audiences able to enjoy traditional African music, classical choir performances and contemporary songs.

The festival opens with the Voices of Unity concerts on Wednesday, June 17 and Thursday, June 18 at 18:30.

These concerts will feature some of South Africa’s leading school choirs and give young singers the opportunity to perform on a professional stage.

On June 17, the Royal Schools Alberton Primary School Choir will join them on stage.

One of the major highlights of the festival will take place on Friday, June 19, at 18:30 when the internationally acclaimed Minnesota Boychoir joins the Drakensberg Boys Choir and the University of Johannesburg Choir for a special collaboration concert.

The Minnesota Boychoir is one of the most respected youth choirs in the United States and has performed at famous venues around the world, including the Sydney Opera House and St Peter’s Basilica.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the Drakensberg Boys Choir School bursary fund, helping talented boys from different backgrounds access quality academic and musical education.

Tickets are available through the official Drakensberg Boys Choir School website or by calling 0861 670 670.

Early booking is encouraged as previous events sold out quickly.
