Metro must fix the problem and not explain the problem

The time has come that our monthly rates and taxes are paid into a trust fund and only paid to the municipality once service delivery is up to standard.

Recent letters in the Alberton RECORD regarding street lights not working and the few that are working are on all day and night.

In his response to the last letter, Themba Gadebe rants about how the system works; however, the question he must answer is how and by when will the system be fixed.

Interesting is that in the same issue of the Alberton RECORD, on the front page article, he states that businesses are threatening to leave Alberton because of power failures.

The frequent power failures and sad state of street lights is linked, among others, to the lack of maintenance. A short drive through Brackenhurst, during daytime, bears evidence of lights not working, lights hanging on a piece of wire (for months) and lights hanging at an angle.

Then there are the connection boxes of which stand open with live wires exposed. This is an accident waiting to happen.
