Pirates down Chiefs

MTN8 first leg of the semifinals.

ORLANDO Pirates midfielder, Daine Klate’s, wish came true. He was solely responsible for the downfall of Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend in the semifinals of the MTN8 which was played on Saturday August 24 at FNB Stadium.

Klate scored a magnificent goal from a free kick outside the box in the twelfth minute of the first half which caught captain and goalkeeper of Kaizer Chiefs, Itumeleng Khune off guard as he could not reach the ball which flew into the right hand corner of the net.

On Thursday August 22 at the Press Conference Klate answered a question about who will win the match and by what margin, “I hope we win with the same score as against Zamalek … 4-1.” For Klate the 4-1 win did not materialize, though he scored the winning goal, it was only one and not four goals for his team, but afterwards he said, “A win is a win it does not matter by what margin.”

This important victory in the first leg of the semifinals has given Buccaneers a lead over Amakhosi. The second leg will be played on September 25 at Pirates home ground at the Orlando Stadium.

In the other semifinal clash Platinum Stars demolished Bidvest Wits 4-2. The return leg will be played on Wits home ground on September 24.
