The Alberton Rugby Club invites players to join
The Alberton Rugby Club, established in 1912, has served the community for more than a century and continues to flourish.
The community-centric Alberton Rugby Club has provided opportunities to get involved and positively invest in the community.
The senior rugby club participates in the Golden Lions Rugby Union (GRLU) premier club competition and fields U19 and U21 third, second and first teams.
A women’s rugby team was established because there was a lot of interest from the community for the club to fill that need.
According to Rory Lapegan, the senior club has started training in preparation for the 2023 season. The training sessions are every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 18:30 to 20:00.
“The junior rugby club will kick off their training in May. They cater for ages from six years to U18 sides. The Alberton Junior Rugby Club is one of the front-runner clubs when it comes to sizes and competitiveness in the GLRU junior club systems,” he said.
The club boasts at least three over-35s, the Golden Oldies, squads. They play touch rugby on Mondays and Wednesdays from 17:30 to 19:30.
