Kibler Park boxing champ bashes counterpart in second round

Shortly after securing her fourth win, Joburg South’s Bernice Ferreira recently dominated in the ring after exchanging blows with Mitchell Mubaya.

Bernice Ferreira is rapidly attracting favourable attention and continues to make a name for herself as she remains undefeated leading with five impressive wins thus far.

She recently enjoyed her fifth professional non-title bout on October 22 in Mpumalanga where she went toe-to-toe with Mitchell Mubaya.

Although the fight was scheduled for six rounds, the rising star won by a technical knockout (TKO) at least a minute and 20 seconds into the second round. The well-attended event was hosted by Infinity Boxing Promotions.

Like all her previous bouts, she said she was well prepared.

“I trained very hard and left no stone unturned. My opponent was a really hard puncher. I felt every punch that she landed and that made me up my game in the second round. I wish to thank everyone who supported me. I received lots of love and I’m truly grateful for all of you,” Ferreira said.

She said without an amazing and supportive team behind her this would not have been possible.

“I’d like to thank and appreciate my manager Colleen Francisco McAusland, coaches Arafaat Kock and John Tshabalala and all my teammates. I’d also like to thank my family and friends, and Lee Ann Jansen for always having my back. I deeply appreciate all their effort and love,” she said.

Ferreira’s manager, Colleen McAusland, said the boxing champ has a great future ahead.

“I’m very happy with her progress. She is definitely a good prospect for South African women in boxing. She will be ready to fight for a title soon. Her hard work, discipline and dedication have paid off.

“I’m already in negotiations for her next fight which will be in December,” she said.

Ferreira thanked Infinity Boxing Promotions for the opportunity as well as her sponsors Mobifit, Navigator Trading, Hair@Meyersdal, Just Style Me Hair Studio, and Vanessa Venter.

She said those who missed her fight can tune in on the TKO Boxing Magazine on the night of October 27 on the SABC sport channel.
