Junior Southern Stars Baseball Club honours their players

Local baseball club honoured their players on April 13 by showering the deserving players with awards.

The future of baseball was displayed during the Junior Southern Stars League prize-giving.

The club recognised players from the U8, U10, and U12 teams for their accomplishments throughout the Summer League, held from September 2023 to March 2024.

Every player received a participation trophy, honouring their efforts and dedication during the season.

However, the celebration was not solely about participation. Several players received special praise for their exceptional performances on the pitch.

U8

Logan Cookson received the soccer award for diving.

The twins, Alessio and Alessandro Marenco received the grey hair award.

U10

Co-best batter: Clarke Adams and Juliano Moreira shared the title for consistent batters during the season.

Most promising newcomer: Juliano Moreira impressed coaches and teammates with his quick learning curve.

Most valuable player (MVP): Clarke Adams earned this prestigious award for his all-around excellence.

‘Are we done yet?’ award: The energetic duo of brother and sister Marc and Daniella Nortje earned this lighthearted award for their enthusiasm.

Forgetful award: Eric Eardley’s forgetfulness brought a smile to everyone with this award in good fun.

U12

Best batter: Liam Bester led the team with his impressive batting stats.

Best pitcher: Calvin Niemand received the award for his dominance on the mound.

Most promising newcomer: Jayden Edwards showed great potential as a newcomer.

Most valuable player (MVP): Juandre Grobler earned an MVP for his exceptional contributions throughout the season.

Butterfly award: Jazper Fourie and Goodness Moloi shared this award for enjoying the outfield a little too much on certain days

Late bloomer award: Liam Peterson proved that dedication and hard work can lead to success, earning this award for his late-season development.

A special honour: The Ron Peterson star award

This year marked the debut of a very unusual floating trophy, the Ron Peterson star award, named after the late Ron Peterson, a beloved character in the club’s history, after voting by both parents and players.

Juliano Moreira received this honour because he personifies the attitude of teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship that Ron Peterson cherished so much.

Thanks to the team behind the team

The coaches’ diligent efforts were vital in making this excellent season possible.

Ryan Kahn, Kyle Kleber, Ettienne van den Heever, Brendon Bester, Silvio Dominianni, Dylan Roberson, Rory Herman, and Shaun Niemand deserve the club’s heartfelt gratitude for their effort and advice.

The administration also appreciates the essential efforts of scorers Heather Posthumus and Claire Kleber. The club is grateful to these individuals, as well as their parents, for their dedication to developing the next generation of baseball players.
