Gauteng dominates at MMA Nationals
South Africa's MMA future looks bright and full of potential.

Gauteng emerged as the top performer at the recently concluded South African Mixed Martial Arts 2024 Nationals, which highlighted the skills of young athletes from all over the nation.
Held from April 18 to 21, in Greyville, Kwa-Zulu Natal, this event was a testament to the growing popularity and talent in the MMA scene.
Gauteng’s youth contingent demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, securing the highest medal count among all participating provinces. Under the guidance of coach Shane Carr, who represents Valhalla MMA and Fitness in Alberton and serves as both a Gauteng youth coach and a national youth coach, several promising athletes shone brightly.
Four of Carr’s students made an indelible mark at the nationals, each walking away with a gold medal in their respective age and weight divisions.
Josef Moosa won two gold medals for his outstanding performance. Wayden Wolmarans, Tannith Snyman, and Teagan Snyman each contributed another gold to Gauteng’s remarkable total.
Carr expressed immense pride in his athletes’ achievements, highlighting their dedication and potential. Looking ahead, he anticipates their success on the international stage.
“The young champions will soon represent South Africa at the IMMAF All Africa event in Namibia this May, followed by the IMMAF Youth World’s Tournament in Abu Dhabi this August,” said Carr.
For parents interested in nurturing their children’s passion for MMA, Carr welcomes inquiries and invites athletes to join his programme at Valhalla MMA and Fitness in Alberton.
