Karate club bags 14 medals at National Championships

The karate club bagged at least 14 medals at a competition held in Pretoria. The club encourages those who want to join to come and try the sport.

The Cobras Shotokan Karate Club impressed at the annual Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan All Styles Karate Challenge held in Pretoria.

The fiercely contested event saw the club secure 14 medals – five gold, six silver and three bronze medals, showcasing the talent and dedication of its members.

Competing against some of the best karate practitioners in the country, the Cobras demonstrated skill and sportsmanship throughout the day.

The event had various categories, including kata and kumite, where participants showed their technique, precision and discipline.

Senseis Laurent and Nicholas Gaston-Bellegarde, the club’s head instructors, were proud of the team’s accomplishments.

“This event was a testament to our students’ hard work and commitment shown in their training. Each medal represents not just individual effort but the strength of our entire club,” said the senseis.

The Cobras Shotokan Karate Club, based at Ascot Mews in Newmarket, trains every Monday and Wednesday, with beginner classes from 17:30 to 18:30 and advanced from 18:30 to 19:30.

The club welcomes students of all ages and skill levels.
