Alberton Ringtennis Club U23 heads to Germany for international glory
Twelve Alberton Ringtennis Club players are set to fly to Germany for the International German Gymnastics Festival Leipzig 2025.
In a thrilling opportunity, the Alberton Ringtennis Club’s U23 national team will participate in the prestigious International German Gymnastics Festival Leipzig 2025, which will take place from May 28 to June 1, 2025.
This esteemed event promises to be an unforgettable experience for the young players.
According to Niël Fouche of the Alberton Ringtennis Club, the International German Gymnastics Festival Leipzig 2025 is the world’s largest competitive and mass sports event, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors, participants, and volunteers.
The festival will showcase 23 sports, including 10 German Championships, across 18 competition locations.
“Leipzig, with its rich sports history, has hosted this festival an impressive 12 times, dating back to 1863,” said Fouche.
The 2025 festival will feature 80 000 active participants, including 5 000 international athletes, and 750 000 visitors.
Additionally, 5 000 volunteers will contribute to the event’s success.
Spectacular stage performances, galas, and professional show programmes will also be part of the event.
As part of the festival, the Alberton Ringtennis Club’s U23 national team will compete against the German Team in thrilling test matches.
“This opportunity will not only showcase their skills but also provide invaluable experience competing against top international talent. German Gymnastics Festivals have been a tradition since 1860, with Leipzig hosting for the 13th time in 2025.
“The organising committee’s dedication, with 60 full-time staff members and over 200 volunteers, ensures a seamless and unforgettable experience,” explained Fouche.
As the Alberton Ringtennis Club’s U23 national team prepares for this incredible adventure, they will make South Africa proud.
With their skills, determination, and teamwork, they will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on the international stage.

Women: Carla Craig (women’s captain), Elisha Hinrichsen, Ilze Olley, Nomnothu Buthelezi, Faith Mokone and Motheo Mohase.
Men: Diedrich Hinrichsen (men’s captain), Breyton Herbst, Conner Luus, Ludnicgh Claase, Tandolwethu Khoza and Marnes Combrink.
