Southern Stars Baseball Club celebrates success at ceremony

The Southern Stars Baseball Club celebrated a season of growth and success with their annual Senior Prize Giving ceremony, recognising standout players from the Sirius Stars, Sigma Stars, and Southern Stars teams, including their first-ever women's league participants.

The Southern Stars Baseball Club recently hosted its much-anticipated annual senior prize-giving ceremony to recognise and celebrate the achievements of its players throughout the winter league season.

This year’s event marked a significant milestone for the club, which saw continued growth and success, with three senior teams namely Sirius Stars, Sigma Stars, and Southern Stars competing across various divisions.

Notably, the club also fielded a dedicated women’s team that participated in the newly established Gauteng Baseball Women’s League.

Throughout the season, each team demonstrated exceptional talent, commitment, and sportsmanship, culminating in an awards ceremony that honoured individual players for their outstanding performances in various categories.

Sirius Stars awards

The Sirius Stars team, known for its strong performances and teamwork, saw the following players recognised for their achievements:

Best batter: Larissa McKenzie

Best pitcher: Larissa McKenzie

Best catcher: Angela Naude

Most promising newcomer: Rachelle Richards

MVP: Megan Simpson

Sigma Stars awards

The Sigma Stars also stood out this season, with several key players taking home awards:

Best batter: Jonty Wood

Best pitcher: Ryan Kahn

Best catcher: Jonty Wood

Most promising newcomer: Kyle Edwards

The Southern Stars team, a core pillar of the club, recognised the following players for their contributions:
Best batter: Donovan Saayman

Best pitcher: Jarrod Kleber

Best catcher: Darren Dickinson

Most promising newcomer: Dan Mashinini

Wooden Spoon award: Bevan Strydom

Most committed Stars supporter: Chantelle Du Toit

Golden Glove award: Kyle Edwards

Highest on base % (stats): Kyle Posthumus

Most improved player: Carmen Edwards

Best attitude award: Justin Wilson

Most strike outs: Kyle Edwards and Dougie

The club also made sure to recognise the enthusiasm and dedication of its younger supporters by presenting each child with a special treat during the ceremony.
