Brackendowns’ Bruce van Niekerk and Meyersdal’s Rob van Aarle were among the stars of the night.

The Germiston Golf Club hosted an awards ceremony to celebrate another thrilling motorsport season.

Called the Formula Libre Awards, the ceremony featured Brackendowns’ Bruce van Niekerk and Meyersdal’s Rob van Aarle.

Van Niekerk and his Omega ’91 were among the stars of the night, capping off an incredible year and claiming the Class D championship title, finishing third in the overall championship.

He dominated the Index of Performance standings.

He also won the playful Farmer of the Year title, a nod to his spectacular 360° spin at the Red Star Raceway in September.

Van Aarle also made waves at the awards. His season earned him first in class, third overall, and best Historic Racing South Africa supporter/competitor.

He was also part of the team that secured the manufacturers’ award, much to the delight of classic Ford fans.

Van Aarle will start the 2025 season at the Zwartkops leg of the Passion for Speed festival in January, with Van Niekerk joining him for the next leg at the Red Star Raceway in February.

In a joint statement, they said, “We express deep gratitude to circuit promoters, track marshals, medical teams and all those working behind the scenes to make each event a success. We also thank our sponsors, supporters and family, acknowledging their vital roles in these accomplishments.”
