Barbara Conradie triumphs after 11-year journey to win Pro Mania title
Barbara Conradie’s journey to the top was marked by dedication, perseverance, and unwavering support from her loved ones and sponsors.
The Pro Mania competition has been a benchmark for excellence in angling for over a decade.
The competition features a unique format, with anglers competing in smaller qualifying events throughout the year.
The top 20 anglers in the ladies’ division advance to the semi-finals, with the ultimate goal of reaching the finals and competing for the grand prize.
This year’s semi-finals were held from November 29 to December 1.
The culmination of the circuit sees the best of the best competing not just for the title but for the grand prize money, making it a winner-takes-all showdown in each division.
A dream of 11 years comes to reality
Eleven years ago, Barbara Conradie, a talented angler from Verwoerd Park, set her sights on a dream: to win the Pro Mania series and lift that coveted cup.
“It was not just a goal, but a promise I made to myself, a journey that has defined much of my life since then,” Barbara reflected.
The path to victory was anything but straightforward. Every competition, every cast, and every moment on the water taught Barbara something new.
For those unfamiliar, the journey to the Pro Mania finals is gruelling and requires strategic precision at every step.
The process starts with Teams Day, which is crucial for figuring out the water conditions and developing a game plan.

“It doesn’t always go as planned, but those lessons are vital for the semi-finals,” Barbara noted.
The semi-finals are where the top 20 ladies battle it out for the top 10 spots.
For Barbara, the semi-finals went exceptionally well. She secured a third overall, earning her place in the finals.
“It’s not just about skill – it’s about adapting to changing conditions and making the right decisions under pressure,” she said.
Lifting the cup
The day of the finals was everything Barbara had envisioned and more. She was focused, determined, and ready.
From the first cast to the last, Barbara gave it her all. She won the day with an incredible 94 fish weighing a total of 25.45 kg, earning a catch point of 1194.50.
“Standing there as the champion of the Pro Mania series was a moment I will never forget.
“This victory would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my family and sponsors,” she said, beaming with pride.
Barbara’s loving husband, Deon, has been her biggest supporter throughout this journey, standing by her side at every competition.

Her sons, Marcel and Ashley, never stopped believing in her. “Their motivation and cheers gave me strength when I needed it most,” she said gratefully.
A special thank you to Piet Stolz from Advance Angling for sponsoring Barbara and providing the feed that made a difference in her performance.
A message to aspiring anglers
To every angler out there with a dream, Barbara’s message is clear: “Never give up. The road may be long, and there will be challenges, but hard work and dedication make the impossible possible.
“Fishing is not just a sport; it’s a lifestyle, one that teaches resilience, patience, and the joy of the journey itself.”
