Alberton boxers to represent Gauteng at upcoming championships
Alberton’s rising boxing talents, Karien Els and JP du Plooy, are among just 14 athletes selected to compete for Gauteng at the provincial championships in Pretoria this weekend.
Two talented boxers from Alberton Boxing Club, Karien Els and JP du Plooy, have been selected to represent Gauteng at the Gauteng Championships.
The tournament will take place in Pretoria from July 18 to 20.
The duo will be accompanied by their coach, Johan Fritz, who has played a key role in their development.
According to Fritz, Els and Du Plooy were selected during the Ekurhuleni Championships in April, where only 14 boxers were chosen to form the Gauteng team.
The final team features top athletes from various boxing clubs across the province.
“We are proud of them and we know they will make us proud there,” said Fritz.
The club is rallying behind the duo as they prepare to showcase their skills on one of the biggest provincial stages in amateur boxing.
