Emotional farewell for Marais Viljoen’s Grade 12 hockey girls

Hoërskool Marais Viljoen High School honoured its Grade 12 hockey girls during a special farewell ceremony as they played their final home match on the school’s astro turf.

A special morning unfolded at Hoërskool Marais Viljoen’s astroturf on June 6 as the school’s Grade 12 hockey girls represented Marais Viljoen on their home field for the final time.

The occasion was marked by a farewell ceremony that celebrated the players’ commitment to the sport and the school throughout their hockey careers.

According to the school, the ceremony was “a fitting tribute to each player’s dedication, sacrifices and passion for Marais Viljoen hockey”.

For the players, hockey was about more than competition. “Hockey was more than just a sport for everyone; it was a place where friendships were built, memories were made, and where these players poured their hearts out for Marais Viljoen,” the school said.

As the Grade 12 players stepped onto the field for the last time in Marais Viljoen colours, the match marked the end of an important chapter in their school careers.

“As you stepped onto the field for the final time for Marais Viljoen, you were not just playing another match; you were celebrating the end of an incredible chapter,” the school said.

The school thanked the players for their contribution to Marais Viljoen hockey and recognised the impact they have made on the sport at the school. “Each of you has left a legacy that will be remembered for many years to come.”

The farewell concluded with a message that reflects the lasting bond between the players and their school: “Once a Viljoentjie, always a Viljoentjie.”
