Alberton Athletic Club celebrates another strong Comrades Marathon showing

Alberton Athletics Club continues its proud Comrades Marathon tradition after adding more than 40 medals at this year's race, and invites runners to join the club ahead of the historic 100th edition.

Alberton Athletics Club (AAC) has once again showcased its proud Comrades Marathon heritage after members earned more than 40 medals at the recent 99th running of the iconic race.

Founded in 1981, the club has built an enduring legacy at the Comrades Marathon, and this year’s event, which also marked the 50th Up Run, saw AAC members continue that tradition with another successful performance.

The club’s first runners home were Anton Ferreira and Elias Ndhlovu, who crossed the finish line together in a time of 07:49:23.

Jesika Joubert was the club’s first female finisher, completing her debut Comrades Marathon in 10:14:00, while Cullen Reyneke was the first novice home in an impressive 08:59:00.

With the historic 100th Comrades Marathon approaching, the Alberton-based club is encouraging more local residents to lace up their running shoes and join its long-standing tradition.

The club invites residents to “train alongside a community built on camaraderie, experience, and shared goals”, adding that members will “run with athletes who have conquered this race time and again.”

AAC says its experience speaks for itself. The club’s 13 honorary members have accumulated more than 150 Comrades Marathon medals between them, including an impressive 41 silver medals.

According to the club, this depth of knowledge, support, and passion makes Alberton Athletics Club the ideal place to begin, or elevate, your Comrades journey.

As Alberton looks ahead to the landmark 100th Comrades Marathon, AAC hopes more local runners will join its community and become part of the club’s proud running legacy.
