Local boxers shine at Shaya Thursday tournament at Emperors Palace

Local amateur boxers battled through closely contested bouts during the second development tournament.

The second ‘Shaya Thursday’ development boxing tournament, held at Emperors Palace’s Sol Castro, produced a night of great vibes, big hits and non-stop action.

The event, which featured six amateur bouts and seven professional fights, saw Sunward Park’s Philip Mupfeka go toe-to-toe with Thato Ntlemeza of Rosettenville in one of the amateur contests of the night.

After a closely contested three rounds, it was Mupfeka who walked off with a 2-1 victory.

Among the amateur boxers who stepped into the ring on the night was Kempton Park’s Jabulani Maluleke, who went up against Sinclare Ness, who boxes out of the Booysens Boxing Club.

Unfortunately for the Kemptonian, Ness proved too strong for him over their three-round bout, with the judges scoring the fight 3-0 in Ness’ favour.

Among the amateur boxers who excelled on the night was Reiger Park’s Theo-Maine Fourie who came up against Frans Ramela of Eden Park.

After three exhilarating rounds, the judges scored the fight 2-1 in Fourie’s favour.
