Top performers ride the Soul Train
An eclectic mix of South African artists will be collaborating for another unforgettable evening.
An eclectic mix of authentically South African artists will be collaborating for another unforgettable installment of Soul Train at Carnival City on July 6, 2019.
The All Black-themed Soul Train promises a diverse mix of Rnb/Soul/AfroPop and Classic House music, with this installment’s headliner being Thandiswa Mazwai, performing hits like “Zabalaza”, “Lahlu’mlenze” and “Jikijela”. Thandiswa is one of SA’s most influential musical talents currently, having started her career in 1998 alongside Bongo Maffin, one of the pioneering bands of Kwaito. After six award-winning albums with Bongo Maffin, this dynamic artist decided to pursue a solo career and has flourished.
Her first project, “Zabalaza” reached double-platinum status and won numerous awards whilst her second, critically acclaimed album called “Ibokwe” reached gold status in the first few weeks of its release. Her first released live DVD “Dance of the Forgotten Free” won South African Music Awards for Best Female Artist and Best Live DVD. Having grown up in a home with two journalist parents and thick with political discussions and books, Thandiswa’s music was inspired by this environment and the writings of the likes of Biko and Fanon amongst others.
Thandiswa easily amalgamates the traditional with the modern as the sweet sounds of her compositions today include traditional Xhosa rhythms, mbaqanga, reggae, kwaito, funk and jazz. She has shared the stage with local and international talents including Skunk Anansie, Salif Keita, Stevie Wonder, Hugh Masikela, Stimela and several others, and is now headed to brace fans on the Big Top Arena stage with her vibey, positive energy and incredible stage presence.
Joining Thandiswa on stage is hit-maker Samthing Soweto who topped the charts with “Akanamali” as well as several other really outstanding artists and deejays including the likes of Msizi Shembe, Wilson B Nkosi, Mo-G and Bambo Johnson in a beautiful atmosphere.
The theme for this session of Soul Train is All Black and revelers are encouraged to dress accordingly if possible.
The show starts at 6pm and is certainly one not to be missed.
