Vumacam and Fox Security provide extra security for residents of the South
With the success rate of about one vehicle hit per day for Fox Security it is still important for cooperation between SAPS and all the various security companies.
Fox Security, with the help of Vumacam, has, for the last two and a half years, run license plate recognition (LPR) cameras in the South to help reduce the crime rate in the area.
The RECORD recently caught up with Francois Jansen, operation director for Fox Security to find out more about the cameras located in the South.
“The cameras work in conjunction with Vumatel. As soon as an incident is reported the registration of the vehicle that was used is sent through to Vuma and they start looking on all their cameras in the area.
As soon as a case is registered with the SAPS, a be on the lookout (BOLO) is sent to a database where it is kept.
Once the vehicle enters another area where Vumacams are it’s picked up and a warning is sent to a local security company to help intercept the vehicle,” Jansen said.
The cams in Glenvista are run as a community project between Glenvista Sector 1 CPF, Fox Security and WAR Security.
Currently, Fox operates a total of 11 cams in the Alberton area.
“These cameras are an important part of the modern crime-fighting arsenal and help keep areas secure with fewer resources than were previously needed. We can also advise residents of accidents with the overview cameras that are also working with the LPR cameras,” said Jansen.
