Watch: Tow ‘trunk’ saves the day as safari vehicle gets stuck

An elephant named Chova came to the rescue when a safari vehicle got stuck in the mud at Adventures with Elephants in Bela-Bela.

Who needs a tow truck when you have an elephant with a trunk who can assist you in a sticky situation?

A team from Adventures with Elephants in Bela-Bela, Limpopo, recently received a gentle tug to help their Land Rover safari vehicle free after getting stuck in the mud.

“Our team found themselves stuck at the dam, and no amount of revving could get the Landy out. Luckily, Chova was nearby, watching the whole commotion with those wise elephant eyes,” shares the team at the conservation, research and education elephant facility on Instagram.

Die Pos previously visited the facility, which was opened in 2010. “Today, there are more than 15 000 tourists per annum who come here for a unique experience.”

According to the Adventures with Elephants website, their elephants were considered ‘problem elephants’. “As such, [they] were going to be destroyed. We took them in and tamed them for educational, hands-on interactions.”
