Embo Cultural Ensemble prepares to take the world by a storm
Embo Cultural Ensemble in Alexandra is a cultural group that was established by King Bhungane III and is deeply rooted by culture and heritage of Africa.
Embo Cultural Ensemble is a cultural group under the Embo Foundation which was founded in 2018 by Khulu Radebe (King Bhungane III).
“Embo simply means ‘origin’ and the group was inspired by the richness of our African heritage. We then felt it can be shared in the global space as the group showcases African dances and poetry,” Radebe said.

The foundation helps run programmes and conducts charitable activities on behalf of the Embo Kingdom of Africa in Africa and internationally. The foundation is about supporting people and uplifting communities throughout the spectrum of change for men, women and children while nurturing people to make the most of their community.
“This voluntary association serves to align people to the kingdom’s mission, purpose and objectives through education, skills and development in all areas, arts and crafts, music, sports and other recreational activities… unity among all people is the main objective for the Embo Kingdom of Africa.”

According to Radebe, the Embo group has a significant influence on the younger generation since they witness the overwhelmingly positive results that come from them. Radebe said that young people flock to join the group in such large numbers that they hardly have enough room for everyone. He continued to extend his gratitude for the love and support they receive from the community of Alexandra and urged people to continue doing so.

“I would like to see the Embo group becoming a world-recognised group like Serafina, Ipi Tombi, and of course Mabatha that toured the world. We would like to see these kids being part of the global community in the field of arts, especially representing our township in the global space.”
