Limpopo ANC’s treasurer steps down following VBS saga

Msiza, in a letter to the ANC’s Secretary General, Ace Magashule, said he was resigning not as an admission of guilt but with a clean and clear conscience that he has done nothing untoward

The treasurer of the ANC in Limpopo, Danny Msiza has resigned after he was embroiled in the VBS Mutual Bank scandal, Polokwane Review reports.

Msiza, on Tuesday, 11 December, wrote to the ANC’s Secretary General, Ace Magashule stating his resignation.

His decision, he says was not made as an admission of guilt, but rather, with a clean and clear conscience that there was nothing untoward that he committed.

He added that his resignation was in the aftermath of an National Working Committee resolution to endorse the Integrity Commission’s report although he says, he was never invited to present his version.

Earlier this year, a forensic report into allegations at VBS placed Msiza as a commission agent in Limpopo, which ensured that municipalities illegally deposited funds into VBS.

In his resignation letter, Msiza says his only financial ties to the VBS bank is that of a legitimate commercial property loan which he says he has prepaid till January 2019.

“My conscience and utmost respect for the ANC dictates that I place my personal feelings of gross injustice secondary and allow the broader interest of the ANC’s movement to take precedent. At this juncture, I need to gear and focus my energy towards clearing my name in an appropriate forum. I will continue to serve and contribute positively and constructively to the growth of our glorious movement,” he stated.

Msiza went on further to say that he will be exercising his constitutional right to challenge Advocate Terry Motau’s forensic report findings relating to him in court.

He added that the basis of his appeal is that he wasn’t given a chance to state his version during Motau’s investigation and instead, was subjected to “deliberate and selective media leaks on the course of his investigation”.

He concluded his resignation letter by thanking President Cyril Ramaphosa, leadership and membership of the ANC for “the honour and privilege to serve…which I will be endeared to for a lifetime.”

VBS was placed under curatorship by the Reserve Bank in March following a cash crunch due to withdrawals by municipalities.
