Uniting to empower communities

Aon, the global provider of risk management and human resource consulting and outsourcing, held its Global Service Day at the Phuthaditjaba Community Centre in Alexandra.
Each year, Aon staff in 40 countries volunteer their time and efforts to support local charities in their communities, and the staff at the Johannesburg branch spent the afternoon at Phuthaditjaba, a centre offering art lessons to children who are homeless or come from child-headed homes.
The staff were involved in creative drawing with the young children and painted two Pablo Picasso wall murals to brighten up the hall of the centre. As part of the firm’s global mission, Aon provides its worldwide staff the opportunity to take time off from their work to engage in charitable activities that focus on providing assistance to organisations that empower people, and to serve communities that are at risk.
“The core of any corporate citizen is how its business contributes to society and to the communities where its staff live and work,” said Anton Roux, CEO of Aon South Africa. “Today we unite to give back to our local community in order to empower those who need it most.”
