Alex school pupils will be among thousands of their counterparts country wide who will be bussed to an entrepreneurial movie at a Ster-Kinekor Cinema near them.
Disadvantaged pupils from Alex and Bramley will watch the movie at Ster-Kinekor in Sandton City Shopping centre. The movie forms part of efforts from Primestars Marketing to inculcate an entrepreneurial culture in school children.
This will be done under the STEP UP 2 A START UP programme, which will see pupils from all over the country being taken to see this motivational movie on 27 July, starting at 9am. It is hoped that after watching the movie, the pupils will be motivated enough to consider setting up their own businesses.
Speaking at the launch of the programme, Primestars Marketing MD Martin Sweet said they wanted to change the culture of pupils leaving school or varsity and hoping to get a job. “We want them to stop hoping for a job and become job creators themselves,” he said.
“For far too long, our children… want an education for a good paying job, but we at Primestars Marketing want to change this if we are to move this country’s economic fortunes further. We want them to start thinking of a good education as a foundation for starting a successful enterprise,” Sweet said.
Sweet said the economic fortunes of this country lay with the youth, and he said the earlier they are taught the entrepreneurial spirit and skills the better.
Primestars Marketing has partnered with various organisations in this endeavour, and chief among them is the National Youth Development Agency (Nyda), whose executive chairperson Yershen Pillay has turned the fortunes of the organisation around to focus on the core mandate of its founding.
Sweet described Pillay as “a hardworking man who steered the Nyda ship in the right direction since taking over” and under his tutelage, there has been a spike in the number of young people being assisted to establish their own businesses. “This is the core mandate of Nyda and I am happy that at last things are moving and happening on that front,” said Sweet.
