Ecomobility Festival begins with a bang
SANDTON – From exciting exhibitions to skate parks at various sites, the Streets Alive Festival recently rocked Sandton ahead of the EcoMobility Festival.
The event, which took place on 4 October, saw cyclists, pedestrians and skaters make their way from Sandton to Alexandra as a way to officially kick off the festival.
Present was Lisa Seftel, executive director of transport for the City of Johannesburg, who praised the turnout. “The vibe here was really amazing and we had a lot of cyclists and families come out and take part, which all looked great,” she said.
Seftel added that it was impressive to see people taking part, despite the distance of the 4km walk and to even see people cycle through Alexandra.
Adding to this, Sipho Nhlapo, operations director at the Johannesburg Roads Agency, hailed the event as a good way to get residents to see what the festival would entail.
“It’s a good sign of how the festival will run and it was important to have people come out and use public transport and see some of the exhibitions on hand,” he said.
Some of the exhibitions included a display of electric cars available during the festival, charge stations for these cars and parking bays for bicycles.
Nhlapo concluded by adding that the City would host a dialogue event at the Industrial Development Corporation in Sandton, which would have speakers discussing the EcoMobility Festival.
