WATCH: DJ Arch Junior wins South Africa’s Got Talent
ALEXANDRA - Alexandra's very own internationally-acclaimed kid DJ has done it and is half-a-million richer.
DJ Arch Junior, as he is known to his millions of fans the world over, emerged victorious at the finals of e.tv’s South Africa’s Got Talent after brushing aside five of his opponents to bag R500 000.
Additionally, DJ Arch Junior, whose real name is Oratilwe Madumo and who goes to a creche in Northcliff, won R25 000 worth of cosmetic products from Avon and R10 000 worth of other products from Celltone.
As in the semifinals, he was again voted the winner of the competition by South Africans at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani, Soweto, when the voting lines were opened for the public to pick their winner.
Speaking soon after the announcement, DJ Arch’s mother, Refilwe, said she was ecstatic and had no words to express her delight for her young son’s win. “After this, I believe the world is his oyster and a lot of other things will begin to fall in place automatically,” said the timid mother who hardly comes to the fore, preferring to let the son’s father do the honours.

Asked what the plans were now that her three-year-old child was more than half-a-million richer, Madumo said the family had not spoken about it before as “we waited for him to really win it before we can start talks around our plans”.
In a separate interview, DJ Arch Junior’s grandmother, Tiny Hlongwane, said the DJaying business runs in the Hlongwane family. “DJ Arch Junior’s granddad, Moses, was a DJ of note himself in his time in Alex; and Glen Hlongwane, DJ Arch Junior’s father, took over from his dad; and now it’s DJ Arch Junior taking over from his father too,” explained the grandmother.

“Since birth, DJ Arch Junior had signs of something special in him, though we did not know what that was. I think he is a Godsend and we’re so proud of him and, at the same time, he has made us and Alex proud,” she said.
Asked for the recipe for the boy’s success, Glen said, “It boils down to spending quality time with your children. When I come home and he asks to play with my cellphone, I don’t say you will break it, I just hand it over to him and this is what made him what he is today, a top kid DJ”.
