Man awaits trial for 2014 murder

ALEXANDRA - Man awaits trial for 2014 murder of man in front of family.

An Alex man is due to go on trial for murder on 7 July at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

This for a murder which occurred at midnight on 21 November 2014. It is alleged that he was with two accomplices who are still at large.

The case was postponed numerous times for various reasons, including when legal aid was sought for the accused’s representation.

It is claimed that the accused shot a male victim several times in his Eastbank home in front of his wife and daughter, resulting in his death. The trio was alleged to have banged on the front door of the home several times before entering the premises after breaking a steel burglar gate and a wooden door. After entering, the suspects were first seen by the daughter ransacking the house.

The wife and husband entered the room and the accused allegedly shot the deceased several times when he asked him to stop harassing his daughter. After the shooting, the accused took two cellphones valued at R500 and fled the scene.

He was arrested by police on 23 July last year at a salon near the deceased’s house after the daughter recognised him when he was entering the premises.
