High five to a bright future at MC Weiler

ALEXANDRA – MC Weiler children teach their parents, media and guests the correct method of handwashing.

Children and parents from Alexandra celebrated Unilever and Lifebuoy’s healthy habit of handwashing as part of Global Handwashing Day, at MC Weiler Primary School.

“The day provides us with an opportunity to celebrate the fact that Lifebuoy has reached over 337 million people across 28 countries with its behaviour change programmes,” said Unilever South Africa’s senior vice president, Peter Cowan at the MC Weiler event.

He added that, to date, Lifebuoy had educated more than 11 million South Africans, including more than two million children in 4 000 schools. “We are happy to add another 1 500 children to those figures today with the first graduates of our Unilever BrightFuture Integrated Schools Programme,” he said.

Global Handwashing Day is a Unicef-affiliated global advocacy day that takes place annually on 15 October and is celebrated by more than 200 million people in more than 100 countries around the world. It aims to highlight the importance of handwashing with soap as a potentially lifesaving habit.

Schoolchildren at MC Weiler were awarded certificates for their completion of the Unilever BrightFuture programme and, as agents for change, they then taught their parents, media and special guests what they had learnt by demonstrating the correct handwashing method.
