Cable theft suspect wants bail

ALEXANDRA – Court waits for bail bid by man suspected of copper cable theft.

A man arrested for theft of copper cable wire in Midrand wants to apply for bail at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

Zweli Gampiyoyo of Diesploot, who was remanded in custody, was arrested at 3am on 19 October, along Old Pretoria Road by patrolling police officers who found him with the wire of unspecified value.

The officers stopped their vehicle when they saw him get into a trench and went to inspect the spot, which is where they found the wire.

He was arrested when he failed to explain the ownership of the wire. Next to the wire was a pick, spade, shovel and a radio in a black bag.
