Alexandra Police Station commander shares her festive message

ALEXANDRA – Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela reflects on the year 2020.

Alexandra Police Station Commander, Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela appreciates the community for their continued support and co-operation during the year 2020.

Magudulela first highlighted that the Alexandra Precinct was identified as a hotspot for coronavirus with the highest number of incidents reported in the region. “This pandemic has affected the community and the police. It has put a strain on our policing resources. We have lost our dear friends and families to the virus.

“While fighting the spread of the virus in our communities and enforcing lockdown regulations, gender-based violence became a huge challenge to the police. This festive season perpetrators of gender based-violence will have no place to hide in Alexandra.”

Magudulela said during this festive season, the police and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) will be out in full force to enhance visibility at the crime hotspots and shopping centres.

“I would also like to request parents to work together with the police to protect our children during school holidays to prevent violence against children. The station has the highest number of liquor outlets and it is also my request that the liquor traders act responsibly by assisting us in preventing crimes against women. Do not serve alcohol to a drunk person. Protect our women by ensuring that while they celebrate the festive period they arrive home safely.”

Together with the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), drunk-and-driving operations will be increased. The station appeals to all drivers to act responsibly and not to drink and drive.

“A lot of our residents will be going away on holiday and leave their homes with no one to take care. We also appeal that please, let there be someone to look after your property in your absence, neighbours to help by checking suspicious activities and report to the police,” she said.

Magudulela urged residents to not play with firearms during the celebratory mood this festive season. “I wish the community and the police a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year. Wear your mask, sanitise and maintain social distancing.”
