Illegal firearms and stolen vehicles recovered in Lombardy East

LOMBARDY – Several stolen items were found at the suspect's rented room including house-breaking equipment.

Metro police K9 officers recovered three illegal firearms, jewellery and stolen vehicles at a house in Lombardy East.

Police were investigating a case of a stolen charcoal brown Kia vehicle that was allegedly stolen during a house robbery in Mondeor on 17 February.

According to Metro police, the vehicle was fitted with a tracking device which led the officers to a house in Lombardy East, a stone’s throw from Alexandra.

“Upon arrival, officers found the Kia vehicle parked in the yard. They also recovered a stolen silver Ford Fiesta believed to be connected to a Yeoville case,” said Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for the Metro police.

With the permission of the owner of the house, officers were able to open the suspect’s rented room as he was not home at the time.

“Police recovered three illegal firearms, bags, jewellery boxes and housebreaking equipment which were all booked in at Sandringham police.”

No arrests have been made and the case is under investigation.
