Suspect found guilty of murder, attempted murder and house robbery sentenced to 44 years direct imprisonment

Alexandra police management and Station Commander Brigadier Lindiwe Victoria Magudulela applauded investigating officer Detective Sergeant Sello Mosomane for his hard work, commitment and professionalism.

This follows the successful sentencing of a suspect who was found guilty of murder, attempted murder and house robbery.

The suspect was sentenced to 44 years’ imprisonment. 

The incident took place on 22 March in 2019 at about 7pm. It was reported that four heavily armed suspects entered no 17, 8th Avenue, and stole money, liquor and shot the owner just before leaving. The owner died instantly. The owner’s assistant was also shot twice in the upper body but survived. 

Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha said the docket was given to Mosomane of the Joburg North District.

“Mosomane was able to trace and arrest one of the suspects on 12 October 2019. The suspect was successfully placed on the court roll and the matter was later referred to the High Court in Johannesburg,” explained Mbatha. 

“The suspect was found guilty and sentenced to 44 years direct imprisonment. He was found guilty of murder, attempted murder and business robbery. He was sentenced to 20 years for murder, 12 for attempted murder and another 12 for business robbery which totals 44 years direct imprisonment.” 

Magudulela appreciated the investigating officer’s hard work and encouraged all members to set an example in the fight in making Alexandra crime-free.
