One suspect is under police guard in hospital following an alleged robbery at a luxury clothing store in Wynberg on August 19.
According to Bramley Police Station spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi, it is alleged that eight suspects entered the store where they held up the staff with firearms and threatened them. “They then allegedly started taking clothes, cellular phones and an undisclosed amount of cash from the store. They also disarmed one of the employees of his firearm,” said Mogodi.
“Further information revealed that when the alleged robbers were going out of the store, one of them was left behind. On his way out, he met up with the local security reaction vehicle where a shootout ensued.”
The suspect ran towards Old Pretoria Main Road where he attempted to hijack a vehicle but failed. He continued and managed to hijack another vehicle, where after a high-speed chase ensued into John Brand Street and 9th Road, Alexandra where the shootout continued.
Mogodi said the suspect was finally apprehended by the security officers after being shot. He was taken to hospital under police guard. “Two firearms were found in his possession. The team of investigators are searching for the remaining suspects.”
ER24 paramedics arrived on scene at 14:05 and found the 28-year old alleged suspect lying near a light motor vehicle. He had two gunshot wounds and was transported to a nearby hospital for further care, said ER24 communications officer Russel Meiring.
