Angof directors mugged in Alex

While in the pledge to adopt more children in Alex and take them to school, the Angof directors get mugged.

Four directors of the Alexandra NGO Foundation (Angof) were robbed in their offices in Alex as they were about to hold a meeting about the charity work they do for the community.

The incident occurred on the morning of June 18 around 11:00

It is alleged that four armed men entered the premises where Angof’s offices are situated. They demanded that everyone lay on their stomachs and they began searching them. They managed to take items from five people, four of whom were directors of Angof.

The directors had come to Alex to visit a daycare centre where the child they had adopted was placed. “The foundation adopted one child from a disadvantaged background whose parents cannot afford to take care of them. When they came here they had pledged to adopt seven children seeing that their motion is going very well,” said Patrick Baloyi, the founder and president of the foundation.

“After visiting the child, the directors came to the office where we were going to have a meeting. Unfortunately, they got mugged immediately when they arrived here and we suspect the people who mugged them have been following them from the daycare.”
An eyewitness, who asked not to be named for safety reasons, said the perpetrators have taken valuables from the four directors. One refused to give them his cellphone, and out of frustration, one of the perpetrators fired a shot and they ran out, thinking the shot will draw attention to them.
“After the robbers had left, we were told by a child who was playing in the streets that they drove off in an Avanza they had arrived with. He also gave us the registration number of the car which we tried to track but couldn’t find it.”

Baloyi concluded, “This is not the first time something like this happens and these boys are still roaming the streets, We have given the police seven days to apprehend them, failure to do so we will have a march in Alexandra.

Alex SAPS Station Commander Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela said they received a complaint and the case was opened on the day of the incident. “The perpetrators took a Samsung S9, driving licence, and credit cards that were inside the wallets of the victims.”

Magudulela said they will make sure these criminals get convicted as this was not the only incident in Alex, they have received cases similar to this one.
