A KwaBhekilanga Secondary School girl who represented Alexandra Wolves Rugby Club under the Golden Lions Rugby Union in the recent Craven Week for Girls Rugby Tournament in Welkom has described the trip as an eye-opener.
Ntokozo Kandiado (15), who was in Welkom in the Free State on June 26 alongside her teammate Sizile Mdunge, spent four days playing rugby in the company of other players from all over the country and returned back home on June 30. Ntokozo and Sizile, who ply their rugby trade in the Wolves U16 girls’ team, won both their games and were the sole representatives of the Johannesburg East District of the Department of Basic Education in the tournament.

A thrilled Ntokozo said they won their first game 41–0 against Leopards and the second game 30–0 playing the Pumas, and described the trip as an ‘eye-opener as we learnt a number of rugby tips that will auger well for our rugby development and careers at the same time’.
“We enjoyed ourselves in the company of other players and the games were a good experience as we got to play other teams from other provinces and won both of them.
“The future looks bright for both of us as long as we continue to work hard at club level and always endeavour to improve our game at all times,” she told Alex News in the absence of her colleague who could not make it to the interview on time due to home commitments.
An equally elated U16 Wolves coach for both boys and girls Jack Moloi said he was proud of his girls for representing both the Lions and Wolves well in the tournament.
