Yellow level 2 storm warning for Johannesburg as showers build
Scattered showers, hail, and high winds are expected across parts of Gauteng as forecasters issue a yellow level 2 warning for severe storms.
The South African Weather Service (Saws) warns that September 4 will start partly cloudy over Gauteng before turning cloudy, cool to warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers.
A yellow level 2 warning is in force for severe thunderstorms over the southern parts of Gauteng. Saws warns these storms can bring localised wind and hail damage to structures, falling trees, and disruption to municipal services due to excessive lightning.

Johannesburg is forecast to stay cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms, ranging from 9°C to 23°C.
Pretoria is expected to start partly cloudy before clouding over, with the same shower and thunderstorm risk and temperatures of 13°C to 26°C. The UVB sunburn index for Gauteng is low.
Where storms develop, residents should be ready for short, sharp downpours and possible local flooding on low-lying roads, strong gusts that can bring down branches and damage light structures, hail in places, and frequent lightning.

Saws advises residents to stay indoors during a storm, unplug non-essential appliances, keep clear of trees and loose roofing, and avoid driving through flooded streets.
Motorists heading south across the metro should allow extra time if storms build this afternoon.
