Alex’s new girls on the block humbles Luso
Blu Raycon Ladies' young but talented players may have been labeled 'nanas' by their Luso counterparts but one thing will remain vivid in their minds for a long time to come as the 'babies' humbled them by 3-0 in the Gauteng Sasol women's League match at the Alexandra Stadium on July 9.
New girls on the Alex block Blu Raycon triumphed 3–0 against Luso Ladies in one of the scrappiest of matches in a Gauteng Sasol Women’s League game at Alexandra Stadium on July 9.
The match also suffered an hour-long delayed start as the referees were sent on a wild goose chase to Thembisa which was the incorrect venue. The match had been scheduled for 13:00 but only started at 14:00 as the South African Football Association referess had to make their way to the scheduled venue of Alexandra Stadium.

Raycon, who have relocated to Alex from Kempton Park and changed their name from Kempton Park Stars to Raycon, started the scrappy match in a disjointed manner and could hardly string successful passes together, while the visitors were putting together some good moves but could not break the solid Raycon line of defence.
The goalless deadlock was finally broken by Raycon’s Bonolo Seekoei who scored one of the easiest and most unusual of goals. Seekoei received a cross from left-winger Lizneth Nkomo and chested the ball into the back of the net, with the keeper sprawled on the ground as she mistook the cross for a goal-bound curler.
Fifteen minutes later, the referee blew for half time with Raycon leading 1–0. When the teams returned from the ‘oranges break’, Raycon came back a rejuvenated side after the coach’s pep talk and almost scored a goal from the efforts of Nkomo within seconds after the ball was centred.

Luso’s Silindile Cindi almost cleared a Raycon’s Tshepang ‘Nana’ Masimula’s attempt into the back of the net sliced past the upright by inches. It was substitute Phosia Mahlaule who added the second goal in only minutes of being on the pitch.
She stumbled onto the ball from a failed Luso pass and struck a flying curler that dipped in good time under the crossbar and rattled the back of the net. The third goal came from the boot of the troublesome ‘Nana’ (baby) of the Raycon side, Masimula in the last 10 minutes to seal victory for her side.
The nifty Masimula was nicknamed ‘Nana’ by a Luso player who kept tripping her and then yelled ‘nana, this is a man’s game and you got to be strong’.
