Police still piecing together the evidence on Mpho Motsumi’s death
Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says no arrests have been made and that police are still piecing together the evidence.
Prominent Alex businessman and president of the Greater Alexandra Chamber of Commerce (Galxcoc) Mpho Motsumi (60) and his 42-year-old bodyguard were fatally shot by unknown assailants driving in a Toyota Quantum on February 28.

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the incident happened in the East Bank section of Alexandra and that the motive for the murders was still the subject of an ongoing investigation.
She said a murder docket had since been opened and that no arrests have been made so far. Motsumi’s death was also confirmed by Galxcoc whose statement did not detail the death of Motsumi who had been president of the organisation for many years and was a founding shareholder of Alex Mall.
Nevhuhulwi said the two men were shot by nine assailants in a hail of bullets and that both victims died at the scene.
Unconfirmed reports indicated that the occupants of a Quantum with AK47s shot him and his bodyguard who has yet to be been identified.
This is an ongoing story and more information will be published as it becomes available.
