Rays of Hope is a non-profit organisation committed to enhancing the educational experience for Alex’s children.
The event will offer participants a chance to challenge themselves and significantly impact the lives of children seeking quality education and support.
Rays of Hope CEO Muziwethu Zwane said they were thrilled to be part of the 947 Ride Joburg and give people an opportunity to make a tangible difference in a child’s life.
“The annual participation in this iconic cycling event serves as a crucial fundraising initiative aimed at bolstering educational resources for children in one of Johannesburg’s most underserved areas.
“Whether participants cycle on our behalf or choose to donate, every contribution counts. Starting from just R200, you can help ensure a child receives critical educational resources like English and mathematics tutoring through our Rose Act Saturday School initiative, a nourishing meal, or other basic needs,” Zwane said.

Zwane added education played a vital role in addressing the challenges faced by the youth of Alexandra.
“With local schools often under-resourced and overcrowded, children frequently struggle with essential learning materials and language barriers, especially when it comes to mastering English-language subjects. This struggle can significantly hinder their academic performance and future opportunities.”
To combat these hurdles, Rays of Hope’s Rose-Act Saturday School provides structured tutoring and mentoring to help learners build a robust academic foundation, enabling them to thrive in their educational pursuits.
The entry fee is R695 with an additional R2 000 to cover the Rays of Hope cycling jersey, a health pack, and administration fees.
Zwane said for those unable to participate in the race, direct donations to Rays of Hope were welcomed and would be strategically utilised to fund the educational support programmes for children in Alexandra.
“It’s not just about the race, it’s about the impact we can make together. Even if you aren’t riding, your donation can help change a child’s story from struggle to success.”
