Northview High School acting principal survives six shots from gunmen

Two gunmen gained entry into Northview High School near Balfour Mall and opened fire on the acting principal, hitting him six times before fleeing the scene.

Two gunmen shot the acting principal of Northview High School near Balfour Mall six times yesterday, December 3, after demanding to see him under the guise of handing him a quotation for tree felling.

According to information, the two men are said to have entered the school premises on Tuesday morning under the guise of seeing the acting principal to give him a quotation for tree felling.
After entering the acting principal’s office, the men then reportedly opened fire at him, hitting him six times before fleeing the scene. Police investigations into the shooting incident are currently underway. The acting principal was rushed to a medical facility, where he is currently in ICU.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane expressed his deep shock at the shooting incident, whose motive is still unknown. Chiloane said the psycho-social support unit of the department was dispatched today, December 4, to provide necessary trauma counselling for learners and educators affected by the incident.
“As the department, we are deeply shocked by this brazen act of violence and lawlessness, which not only targeted a school leader but undermined the sanctity of our educational institution.
“We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book. Our thoughts and prayers are with the acting principal, his family, and the school community during this difficult time and we wish him a speedy recovery,” Chiloane said.
