Alex Gobela’s rape case postponed to February 20
The case was postponed due to a lack of electricity at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, and because the rape victim was unavailable as she was in Limpopo.
The case of Alex Gobela, a Sangoma initiation master accused of the multiple rapes of an 11-year-old girl initiate at his practice in 2020, was postponed in the Alexandra Regional Court to February 20 next year.

The case had to be postponed due to a lack of electricity at the courts and the unavailability of the victim for further cross-examination by defence lawyer, advocate Zimisele Masuku.

The victim, now a 15-year-old, was allegedly raped multiple times by her Gobela, Arthur Lucky Motaung, also known as Dr Lucky, who has pleaded not guilty to 12 counts including six of rape, one of compelled rape, three of assault to commit grievous bodily harm using a sjambok, and two of common assault.
Regional magistrate Hannile Banks postponed the trial to February 20 with the accused remanded in custody.
