A rebellious comeback against Ma-Africa at Safe Hub

Rebels FC came back to score three match-winning goals in the second half of their regional league match-up against Ma-Africa FC.

Ma-Africa FC lost 2–3 to the visiting Rebels FC side from west Johannesburg on January 25.

After maintaining a dominant 1-0 lead into halftime, Ma-Africa FC lost control of the match early into the second half when the visiting side unleashed their rebellious nature on the AstroTurf field at Safe Hub.

Rebels FC soon took a 2-1 lead but gifted the hosts a penalty, which Ma-Africa FC goalkeeper Andani Rambau stepped up to level the contest at 2-2.

The visiting side upped the tempo, keeping Rambau busy with a barrage of attempts at reclaiming the lead. Ma-Africa also had a few opportunities, however, their shots at goal either flew wide or were short on power.

Ultimately, Rebels FC reclaimed the lead and saw out the game for the 3–2 win.
Rebels FC coach Caswill Koert was proud of his players.

“I think this comeback showed a lot of character from the team,” said Koert. “We weren’t happy with the first half’s performance at half time. Harsh words were said with being down a goal but grit and determination got us through.”

Ma-Africa CEO Khatu Ramovha said he and the coach Lucky Zuma were on the same page regarding what the team needed to work on.

“Looking at the game, the boys are struck by fatigue. I note that we need to work on strength and endurance to be able to play 90 minutes,” said Ramovha. “We faced the same situation against Boulevard United FC where we scored first, and maintained a lead for the whole first half, only to concede two silly goals in the second half. We lost 2-1, and it’s the same situation today.

“We’d have won two games in a row if games were 45 minutes, but I’m happy with my coach Lucky Zuma. He’s noticed these things as well and he’s working very hard on improving the team.”

Meanwhile, on the same day at Alex Stadium, local team Gomtown Boys picked up a 3–1 victory over Boulevard United FC.

Both games were part of the Yellow Stream Hollywood Bets Regional League.
