“We urgently need sponsorships to support our efforts…Our aim is to uplift these young athletes, many of whom lack basic necessities like shoes and proper kits,” says local avid netballer

The league will run from March 1 to October at the Alexandra Three Square Sports Stadium. Both local teams and potential sponsors are encouraged to join this exciting journey to restore netball’s former glory in Alexandra
Kgomotso Chidzalo, founder and coach of the Edrei Mighty Warriors netball club, expressed the league’s mission clearly: to breathe new life into netball in Alexandra. “In Alexandra, netball was once one of the most cherished sports, attracting large crowds of fans whenever matches were held,” Chidzalo reflected.

“However, interest has waned over time and the sport faded away. Our goal now is to re-establish netball in the community, which is why we have organised this league. Last year, we successfully attracted teams from outside the area to join us, and this year we hope to see even more teams participating. This league serves as a vital means to revive the sport and engage the youth in netball once again.”
Chidzalo who is enthuasitic about netball and uplifting the community also highlighted the current challenges faced in terms of stakeholder support. “At the moment, we do not have a significant number of partners or sponsors working with us.
“The City of Johannesburg has been instrumental in assisting us by providing access to the netball courts at Three Square, which we are grateful for. However, we are actively seeking more support from the community. We are reaching out to the media to help raise awareness so that more people can learn about the revival of netball in Alexandra.”
“We urgently need sponsorships to support our efforts. It’s important to remember that we are working with disadvantaged players. Our aim is to uplift these young athletes, many of whom lack basic necessities like shoes and proper kits. We need equipment for all teams. We invite the Alexandra community to come out, witness the league’s excitement, and consider providing support,” Chidzalo urged.
