Ward 102 councillor leads community cleanup initiative to restore Bryanston’s DMK Park
Ward 102 councillor Lucinda Harman kick-starts the Reimagine Randburg initiative with a successful cleanup campaign at David Mohr Knives (DMK) Park, urging residents to take pride in their surroundings.
In a significant step towards revitalising Bryanston, Ward 102 councillor Lucinda Harman launched the Reimagine Randburg initiative, uniting local businesses and residents in a collective effort to clean and beautify Ward 102, starting with David Mohr Knives (DMK) Park on March 1.

This initiative comes as a response to the visible decay in the area, where neglected public spaces have become a challenge for the community.
The cleanup event attracted a remarkable turnout, showcasing the determination of residents to reclaim their public spaces.
Harman emphasised the importance of active citizenship in maintaining the vibrancy of the community. “We have witnessed the decline of many areas within Johannesburg, and it’s no longer sufficient to wait for the city to intervene. It’s time for us to take action and come together as a community. Through Reimagine Randburg, we are not just cleaning up; we are fostering pride in our neighbourhood,” she said.

A resident, David Mohr, who has been particularly active in advocating for improvements in the park, voiced his support for the initiative. “DMK Park has long been a dumping ground, and it’s always bothered me. We’ve seen vagrants and a lot of rubbish in this area. I personally removed four truckloads of waste from here.
“By starting with small efforts like this, we can truly make a big difference and create a space where people want to relax and enjoy.”
The collaborative effort not only aimed to clean the park but also included plans to enhance its appeal. “We’re excited to transform this park into a scenic area for everyone. It’s about making it inviting. A place where people can sit and enjoy their surroundings,” Mohr concluded.
